Female Fertility Preservation

The IVF-Fertility Division of Women’s Clinic, Ltd. has added female fertility preservation to our sperm freezing program. This process is particularly indicated for females with cancer that must undergo Chemotherapy. There are also other indications unrelated to cancer when Chemotherapy type medications are required, along with certain pathological conditions that put the ovaries in jeopardy. Examples of some of these conditions would include: Advance Autoimmune Disorders, recurrent severe endometriosis and benign ovarian tumors. On rare occasions, there are also some conditions that predispose to Premature Menopause such as Mosaic Turners Syndrome and Fragile X Syndrome.

Subsequently once the patient has been cleared to attempt pregnancy, either the frozen eggs or frozen ovarian tissue can be thawed with hope of having embryo development. The eggs would undergo insemination and the subsequent embryos transferred in the typical fashion used for IVF. The ovarian tissue would need to be surgically replaced into the pelvis at this point in time.
